How Do I Apply Law of Attraction
To Get Where I Really Want To Be?

I don’t know that there’s one single right answer to that question, but I can tell you what’s worked for me, and for many coaching clients I’ve worked with who’ve wanted to incorporate Law of Attraction into their lives.

Step 1: Read and Learn about Law of Attraction.

I knew about the Law of Attraction in theory, and I had listened to some early Abraham information on tape in the mid-90s. But it wasn’t until I read Ask And It Is Given when it came out in 2004 that I really saw the bigger picture. When I read about how it was all supposed to work – about contrast, and the creative process, and what I really was and wasn’t responsible for, that was when I was able to begin to let go of some of my old limiting beliefs and resistance, and allow LOA to work in my life.

Steps 2 and 3: Practice LOA Processes, and Identify and Release Resistance.

I feel compelled to list these two together, because some people will start with one, some with the other, and most will alternate between these two steps for quite some time.

(Step 2) If you read about Law of Attraction and are immediately relieved, excited, and can’t wait to get going, then beginning your practice with some of the LOA processes is probably a good place to start. There are 22 processes, or step-by-step “how-to” practices for incorporating LOA, at the end of Ask And It Is Given. I would encourage you to read about and become familiar with all of them, but also to know that you don’t need to do them all. Just do the ones that appeal to you, and do them regularly. Changing habits – even energetic habits -takes time and practice.

(Step 3) On the other hand, if you read about Law of Attraction and you immediately identify resistant thoughts, feelings, and beliefs (the “yes buts” that pop into your head as you’re reading or discussing LOA), you may want to begin addressing those first, before you get too far into the processes. This will be a more efficient use of your time and energy, and will keep you from feeling frustrated and even more resistant.

One of the easiest ways I know to release resistance is with EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), which is why I use it so much in my coaching practice and in my own life. You can read about EFT on several other pages in this website, and can either use it on your own or work with me or another coach to facilitate the process. It’s a great tool to use in conjunction with Law of Attraction, and it can help you release resistance much more quickly, and allow growth and abundance and positive change into your life much more easily.

Step 4: Interact with Other People Who Are Living and Learning about LOA.

You don’t have to interact with anyone else in order for Law of Attraction to work in your life. As you get into alignment with yourself (and your expanded self or inner being), everything else will line up anyway. But sharing the journey with others is a wonderful thing. There are various LOA discussion groups, and even specific Abraham groups. (I facilitate an abundance sharing and practice group on the first Sunday of each month here in Phoenix. See my “News & Events” page.) There are also online groups, Abe Quotes you can get by e-mail, and a host of other options.

By interacting with others and practicing what you’ve learned about Law of Attraction, you’ll notice that more and more positive manifestations happen in your life. Celebrate your increasing abundance, share the good news, practice the processes with friends or in groups, and spend time talking with like-minded folks who can walk with you on your journey toward a joyful and abundant life. All of these activities expand your positive focus and help put Law of Attraction to work for you.

Step 5: Broaden Your Understanding of Law of Attraction.

The information available about Law of Attraction is expanding and evolving all the time. Through their Art of Allowing workshops, and the CDs containing highlights of those workshops, Abraham keeps providing us with new information, and new answers to the questions that are continually arising as more and more people become aware. In 2007, Jerry and Esther Hicks released their book, The Astonishing Power of Emotions, to keep readers updated with all the new information that’s evolved since Ask And It Is Given was published.

The Astonishing Power of Emotions also offers more and more specific ways to “get downstream” with Law of Attraction, that is, to allow things to flow naturally toward what we really want in life, rather than trying to struggle “upstream” after the things we’ve been chasing for so long. I’ll get more specific about the upstream/downstream concept in the next article here, “My Top 20 Favorite Abraham Concepts.” Upstream and Downstream has been a life-changing concept for me, to say the least!

Jerry and Esther also published their book, The Law of Attraction, in 2006, which includes information from the early days of dialogue between Jerry (the great questioner) and Abraham. Even though this is a more “basic information” book, I would still recommend reading Ask and It Is Given first, because it provides such a wonderful big picture framework.

Step 6: Repeat a Balanced Mix of Steps 1 Through 5!

One of the things I’ve finally accepted, which Abraham has been saying for a very long time (and I’ve been resisting), is that progress with Law of Attraction comes gradually, a little at a time. I really wanted a quantum leap! I wanted to get the information, put it into action, attract my vast financial abundance in one lump sum (not for the glitz of it, but to have the absolute freedom to do exactly what I want, whenever I want), and to settle into my daily routine of writing and traveling and puttering around the house.

I have had some quantum leaps, some major “aha” moments, some wonderful relief and joy, and some rather amazing manifestations. I’ve also found that the most lasting progress and forward movement comes from the ongoing Law of Attraction practices I do, and from shifting my energy toward allowing and ease and relief, one feeling and one thought at a time.

When I began facilitating my first set of monthly Law of Attraction groups in 2005, almost everyone had small shifts and periodic manifestations right away, but the deeper and more lasting changes didn’t come about for most people until halfway through 2006! I wondered if I was doing something wrong as a facilitator (there’s some old upstream thinking), until I heard Abraham repeatedly saying that the shift from resisting to allowing happens a little at a time.

Step 7: Relax and Enjoy the Ever-Increasing Abundance Flowing Into Your Life.

Progress with the Law of Attraction may be incremental, but it does happen! It is a universal law and there are no exceptions. As time passes, and you practice and learn and integrate LOA consciously into your life, you’ll notice shifts in your perspective. Manifestations of the things you’ve asked for become more and more apparent, more quickly, and closer together than they were in the beginning.

The beauty of it is that you don’t have to “figure it out” or “make it work.” It works anyway! As you do your part of identifying and releasing your resistance, the universe and the Law of Attraction orchestrate the details and bring you everything you’ve ever wanted and more. And the more you focus on the positive changes that are happening, the more positive changes happen. That’s how Law of Attraction works – every time, for everyone.
